Colon and Rectal Surgery
Chairman's Message
Lehigh Valley Health Network is proud of its distinguished history in graduate surgical education. The general surgery residency program aims at enabling graduates to meet the requirements of the American Board of Surgery and, if desired, to secure additional subspecialty fellowship training under highly competitive circumstances.
Acute care in all major clinical areas is provided in state-of-the-art medical/surgical and critical care units. A strong general surgery service is complemented by numerous surgical specialties, including cardiothoracic surgery, colon and rectal surgery, neurological surgery, orthopedics, otolaryngology, plastic surgery, urology, and vascular surgery. The hospital’s kidney and pancreatic transplant programs expand the treatment options for patients in eastern Pennsylvania. Lehigh Valley Health Network has been at the forefront of minimally invasive surgery for both basic and complex abdominal, thoracic, and spine procedures.
A leader in the field of trauma/surgical critical care, Lehigh Valley Health Network was the first state-designated, Level I Trauma Center in Pennsylvania. The Burn Center serves northeastern Pennsylvania and western New Jersey, and is part of the largest coordinated burn care network in the country.
The Department of Surgery also sponsors a three-year plastic surgery residency, a one-year residency in surgical critical care, and a one-year residency in colon and rectal surgery.
Lehigh Valley Health Network is a major clinical campus of Penn State University’s College of Medicine. This affiliation strengthens our medical education programs and provides opportunities for the exchange of faculty. More than 500 medical students participate in over 40 rotations throughout the year.
